PITTSBURGH – Ryan Green scored four goals and Ryan Cass added three more, helping Dayton defeat Lourdes, 15-10, in the championship game of the Division II Central Collegiate Lacrosse Association (CCLA) tournament on Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium.
With the victory, the defending national champion Flyers earn an automatic qualifying berth to the 2016 MCLA National Championship powered by Under Armour, which take place from May 9-14 in Orange County, Calif. The seeding and matchups for nationals will be announced tomorrow evening, Sunday, May 1.
Dayton (14-2) led just 3-2 after the first period and 6-4 at the break as Lourdes (12-3) would not go away. The game was still close at 12-10 late in the fourth before the Flyers’ backline, led by tournament defensive MVP Ross Sattler, put the clamps down and allowed Dayton to put the icing on the win.
Lourdes, which will enter the MCLA National Championships as an at-large, will find out its fate on Sunday, as well.
