RMLC Notebook: CSU, UVU Start Quick

February 7th, 2022 General News | Air Force | BYU | Colorado | CU-Denver | Colorado State | MSUD | Texas | Utah | Utah State | Utah Valley | Wyoming

OREM, Utah -- Rocky Mountain Lacrosse Conference (RMLC) action is back as four teams in the league squared off last weekend in two interdivisional matchups.

No. 22 Colorado State faced RMLC D-II rep Wyoming in the “Border War” with the Rams overpowering the Cowboys in convincing fashion. CSU started hot from the opening face off and never looked back as the Rams put up 20 in their first official game of the season and were no real match for the Cowboys.

Another interdivisional matchup between Utah Valley and Utah's new RMLC D-II club team appeared to be a closer matchup.

With little known about the new Utah team, the Utes came out swinging against the the No. 15 Wolverines. A game that saw plenty of physicality between the two squads slowed the Wolverines.

UVU pulled out a 10-7 win despite out-shooting the Utes in the second half 31-9 and 61-21 overall. The Wolverines were down four starting players due to injury. The new Utes squad is not lacking talented players and is poised to turn some heads in the Division II ranks this year.

This week in action in the RMLC:

Division I
- No. 1 BYU is in Boise to take on Washington State Friday and Boise State Saturday. Look for the Cougars to come back from the Gem State with a 2-0 record.

- No. 15 Utah Valley has “The Battle of the Brothers” in the interdivisional RMLC rivalry game against Utah State in Logan on Saturday. The Wolverines should take the Arbon Cup for the third straight year.

- Texas opens its 2022 season with a pair of games against Lone Star Alliance (LSA) schools with SMU on Friday and Texas Tech on Sunday. Texas should come out of the weekend with a 2-0 record.

- No. 8 Colorado and No. 22 Colorado State are idle this week before hosting Georgia the following week.

Division II
- No. 17 Utah State takes on two Beehive State rivals this week. Utah on Friday night and Utah Valley in the “Battle of the Brothers” Saturday afternoon. Two tough matchups in less than 24 hours gives a shot for the Aggies to prove their metal.

- MSU Denver takes on Nebraska and Creighton in the Cornhuskers backyard.

- Colorado Denver takes on Air Force Academy (Club) in an early RMLC divisional matchup.
