Kennesaw’s Shaub Goalie of Week

ATLANTA – After backstopping Kennesaw State to a dominating ranked win, Owls junior netminder Joe Shaub has been named MCLA Division II PEARL Goalie of the Week for the period ending March 20.

Kennesaw State – ranked No. 3 in the most recent New Balance Weekly Coaches Poll – entertained No. 10 Florida Gulf Coast over the weekend and the Dunwoody, Ga., product was on his game.

Shaub stopped 17 of the 23 shots that came his way – good for 73.9 save percentage – as the Owls rolled past the Eagles, 16-6.

In a subdivisional game against Georgia Southern, Shaub also made six saves and allowed two goals (75.0 sv%) in a comfortable Kennesaw State win.

“Joe has really stepped up his game and continues the tradition of great goalies at Kennesaw State,” said Kennesaw State coach Connor Murphy. “He is a captain and a vocal presence on the field.

“He came up clutch in our win over Florida Gulf Coast with a number of saves right on the doorstep.”

For earning the PEARL’s Goalie of the Week, Shaub will receive a prize package from Guardian PEARL, a ball that lasts longer than the rest and never greases. Guardian PEARL is the proud partner of the MCLA.

Pearl Honor Roll

Jack Nixon, Senior – Appalachian State
The Mountaineers split a pair of games this weekend with Seven Lakes, N.C., native shining in both. He combined for 59 saves and a 70.2 sv%.

Erik Rodriguez, Freshman – San Jose State
The rookie from Eastvale, Calif., turned away 15 shots, leading the Spartans to an 18-8 non-conference win over Southern Oregon.

Logan Saunders, Freshman – Florida Atlantic
The Owls blanked Florida Poly with the rookie from Wesley Chapel, Fla., going the distance in the shutout.

Garrett Smith, Freshman – St. John’s
The Johnnies ran up against D-I No. 15 Minnesota and the Eden Prairie, Minn., product played well in a loss, finishing with 31 total saves.
