ATLANTA – The Division II bracket for the 2023 MCLA National Championships presented by New Balance has been amended on Monday to reflect recent changes.
Utah State, formerly seeded at No. 14 and scheduled to play No. 3 St. Thomas, has chosen to decline its at-large invitation.
This opens the door for the emergency replacement team – selected by the committee on Sunday night – to fill the gap. As such, North Dakota State has been added to the 16-team field.
In order to avoid intra-conference matchups in the first round on Monday, May 8, Florida Atlantic, formerly No. 16, has been bumped up to the No. 14 seed and will play St. Thomas.
North Dakota State is placed on the No. 16 line and will square off with top-seeded Rhode Island in the first round.
“It’s obviously disappointing when a team cannot participate in the tournament when invited, but fortunately we’ve done our due diligence and had a backup waiting,” said director of competition Gary Podesta. “Welcome to the tournament, North Dakota State.”
